Topic: Zapper Light Gun

Light gun - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Light guns are very popular in arcade games, but have never caught on in the home video game console market.
These early light gun games used small targets (usually moving) onto which a light-sensing tube was mounted; the player used a gun (usually a rifle) that emitted a beam of light when the trigger was pulled.
A game that uses more than one gun reads both triggers continuously and then, when one player pulls a gun's trigger, the game polls that gun's diode until it knows which object was hit.

 Duck Hunt Review
There weren't many games to take advantage of the Zapper, nor have other systems had many light gun games, and Duck Hunt did offer a break from all the platform games on the NES.
However, that game's light gun stages alone are vastly superior to all of Duck Hunt.
Also, the aim of the Zapper with the game seems accurate enough for the technology of the time.

defunct games > on running feuds > leaving the light gun where it belongs
These days game systems don't come with light guns so if you're going to play a game like House of the Dead you are going to need to pick up a $40+ accessory to go along with it.
But not light gun games, they are better when you have a huge gun that looks like the heat your character is packing on screen.
To make matters worse, sometimes the gun is only good for one game, making it extremely hard to justify purchasing it in the first place.

 Duck Hunt
You can shoot the Zapper at the game game from a mirror.
Put the Light Zapper on the duck you want to hit.
Note: This may be done when one or two ducks appear on screen.

Attack The Gas Station! - Progressive Boink
Captain N made the Zapper look awesome, and we all wanted to be like him and become the game.
Eventually, the part of the gun that's supposed to be the bullet chamber would come loose and hang off the edge of the gun, and then nobody would want to play stupid Cowboys anymore.
So I'd just use the Lazer Tag gun when I was playing Army with my friends.

I've done experiments involving plugging the Zapper into a different Nintendo and shooting it at the screen with Duck Hunt playing on it.
I still haven't gotten the results back from the lab, but I think we all know that something fishy is going on.
It also doesn't require an infrared receiver of any kind like later game guns.

When the screen flashes, the game turns the backgrounds black, and the areas that can be hit white.
When you pull the trigger on the gun, that tells the game to flash the screen.
It could be used it a fair amount of games including, Duck Hunt, Gotcha The Sport, Wild Gun Man, Hogan's Alley, Track 'n' Field 2, Shooting Range, Bayou Billy, and Gumshoe.

Basically, it is just your basic duck shooting game using a light gun.
The Zapper light gun is extremely precise and accurate, so there are no controlling problems in Duck Hunt either.
If you have any talent aiming the gun at all, you should be hitting the ducks with ease, due to everything being perfectly engineered in that gun.

The only light gun game I bothered to play recently is Point Blank 3, it is tons of fun but is a PSX game, however don't let that stop you, did they ever release a PS2 version?
My favorite gun series of all time (and I have many many gun games) is the Point Blank series for the PS1.
It's reasonable to believe that any shooter will essentially be a light gun game, pointing at the screen and shooting targets (at least that's what their demo showed).

I know for a fact that the guns used inspired the Sega Zapper light gun.) Anyway, it's a long and tough game, but it gets my vote as one of the better SMS games out there.
Similarly, when you're fighting in a corridor, you can try to duck under the shots of the Norse soldiers; but if they duck and it shoot, there's not much you can do to dodge it.
This makes gameplay rather tough at the beginning of the game when you have a crappy gun; fortunately, it gets better as time progressed (the most powerful gun can destroy land mines without you having to jump over them.)
