The World Chess Championship is played to determine the World Champion in the board game chess.
The Women's World Championship was established by FIDE in 1927 as a single tournament held alongside the Chess Olympiad.
The world's strongest players were seeded into "Interzonal tournaments", where they were joined by players who had qualified from "Zonal tournaments".

INTERNATIONAL Master Nelson Mariano II of the Philippines scored a perfect 9 points in nine games to rule the recent 2003 Arab Invitational Blitz Chess Championship in the United Arab Emirates.
In achieving the rare result, the 28-year-old Mariano beat Egyptian IM Abdulhamid Arosi with black in a Center Counter Game and UAE's Nabilk Saleh with white in a King's Pawn Opening in his last two rounds.
Arosi went on to finish second with 7.5 points, followed by Fide Master Mohd Amer of Syria with 7.
