"Ultima VI" once again delivers a high-quality story with a deep meaning, that is accompanied by a flexible, versatile gameplay, and is set in a world that is even more detailed than it was in the previous game.
"Ultima VI" is not difficult combat-wise, and is also more user-friendly than previous Ultimas, which makes it overall easier than its predecessor, but the abundance of items to find, people to talk to, secret areas to explore, and quests to complete is enough to confuse even an experienced player.
This makes "Ultima VI" look like an adventure game, only with a game world that is hundred times larger.

The Ultima games are an attempt to do the same within a computer game.
Although the movement in Ultima 6 is from one square to the other, it does not feel like a turn-based game, as you keep going without any delay between moves.
Battles are played more like a turn-based game, which gives you ample time to plan moves.

In the rest of this story I'll be talking about the 1986 version of Ultima I. If you take into account that Ultima I is a rather old game, you'll be surprised how much fun this game really is. In my opinion this game beats a lot of modern games.

So the world model (torus, square lined with teleporters, or whatever) is the same as in the other games.
In the beginning of Ultima VI, the Avatar races out to the stone circle and spies the Orb of the Moons lying in the circle, and then he picks it up.
As for the whole Underworld affair in this game: It can’t be a simple case of the Underworld existing on the reverse side of Britania, either, because the sun and moons will appear in the exact same location in the sky regardless of whether you’re in Britania or the Underworld.

I realized in playing this Ultima that the mazes were not going to be as friendly as in Ultima I, so I began mapping them.
This scenario shows that sometimes the back of the box can actually deceive you into not buying a game if you don't know enough, which is why an actual magazine review is probably a better judge of a game's character.
I've played Ultima IV, and I must have be about 1/3rd of the way through.

I've got one of the Ultima I-VI CDs, and I would like to play these games on my new Windows 95 system (Pentium 95).
These are a few tips should be read by everyone who is going to play any of the CD Ultima games.
The trick, in Ultima II, is to use the [Ctrl][Left Arrow] and [Ctrl][Right Arrow] to change the game speed during game-play.

No other parts of this large game were mapped.
The only map to not have an "orientation" - not one side is "up." The four corners represent the four elements, and the game was divided into "zones" rather than a full continent map.

The game world is far more detailed than in previous Ultima's and you can see the design evolving towards the Superb Ultima 7.
The gameplay is based on "turns", whenever you move 1 square or perform a task, everyone else will then move and so on.

Level 5 is empty but level 6 contains the gargoyle world straight out of Ultima VI!
It doesn't quite make sense because some of the chunks (8x8 blocks of tiles) are different, but it's clearly the same map.

So in many ways, Teudogar is based on Darghul (while Darghul was based on Ultima VI).
Regarding the game's plot: I was a bit tired of the usual mixture (J.R.R. Tolkien's fantasy world plus a little of the middle ages, plus some mythology from other epochs, plus problems, perspectives and characteristics of the present times).
Considering the huge amount of work involved, I'd promised myself to never again write a RPG - but I finally changed my mind, for though it's a tremendous lot of work, developing a RPG is also great fun.
