 NEC TurboExpress - Game-Machines.com
The TurboExpress was released overseas to compete with the Atari Lynx, Nintendo Game Boy, and Sega Game Gear.
The TurboExpress didn't have a great selection of games...
The GameBoy was the big thing in portable, even the GameGear was falling behind.

GP32x.com Board [GP32 GP2X XGP] -> Turboexpress Prices Might Start Dropping On Ebay
The only way the TurboExpress is going to go down in price is if the numbers of TurboExpresses goes up greatly, which ain't gonna happen.
I will say though that there was a point where I was playing Soldier Blade and said to myself "well, guess I dont need a turboexpress do I?!" and giggled to myself.

TurboExpress - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
TurboGrafx titles saved game data using something called the TurboBooster plus (or the internal memory of the CD unit or TurboDuo).
However, very few TG-16 games offered co-op play modes especially designed with the TurboExpress in mind.
It was the most advanced handheld of its time and could play all the TurboGrafx-16's games(which were on a small, credit-card sized media called HuCards).

ClassicGaming - The Museum: TurboGrafx-16 FAQ
To play PcEngine HuCards on TurboExpress, use the same PcEngine->TG16 adaptor.
As for TurboExpress compatibility, I think it can handle the 320x256 mode used in Y's and others, but I've never tested 512x256...
Colors are DEFINITELY fixed at 512 (minus duplicates) but when in 512x256 mode, dithering colors, or displaying alternating vertical bands of, say blue and red, give a convincing display of purple, so more colors can be SHOWN this way, but still not true color.

 The Johns Hopkins News-Letter
This wasn't terribly hard to conceptualize: Turbo-Grafx games were about the size of today's flash memory cards and wafer thin.
Besides the freedom of mobility for your TG16 games, the TurboExpress also offered a TV-tuner attachment.
If you absolutely had to have two players, you could always hook it up to a TV, and play like a console (available on the TurboExpress as well).

When it comes to play games, the TurboExpress offers a huge catalogue to choose from, containing several hundreds of classic hit titles, a legacy of playability and fun.
The unit is a bit thick (175 x 105 x 43 mm are the exact dimensions) and slightly overweight (430 Grams) compared to the standards nowadays.
You can play US TurboChips games but not the Japanese HuCards (at least without an appropriate adapter, hard-to-find and selling for prohibitive prices nowadays).

PC Pro: Product Reviews: Genoa TurboExpress PII
In terms of features the TurboExpress PII is typical of a single Slot 1 motherboard, although it does feature four DIMM sockets.
Compared with the other single Slot 1 motherboards, the board ran in the upper echelons, beating notable names such as Gigabyte and Intel.
The location of the DIMM sockets will conflict with a long AGP card, which means that the removal of such a graphics card will be necessary when the user wants to upgrade memory.

The Reaction: Most people who tried the TurboExpress loved it; however, much like the TG-16, few people wanted to try it with the Game Boy (and later, Game Gear) on the market.
The System: NEC, makers of TurboGrafx-16, gave this slick machine sharp, high-resolution color graphics, and made it fully compatible with many of the available TG-16 games.
