Slaughter rule - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
However, it should be noted that slaughter rules usually do not take effect until a prescribed point in the game (e.g., the second half of a football game).
Slaughter rules are most common in games such as baseball or softball, where there is no game clock and play could theoretically continue forever, although it is also used in sports such as Hockey, football, and soccer.
The rules vary widely, depending on the level of competition, but nearly all youth leagues and high school sports associations, and many college sports associations have slaughter rules for sports including baseball, softball, football (although not college) and soccer.

Stopping rule - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Playing until she either runs out of money or has played 500 games is a stopping rule.
Playing until she either doubles her money or runs out of money is a stopping rule, even though there is potentially no limit to the number of games she plays, since the probability that she stops in a finite time is 1.
The theory of stopping rules and stopping times can be analysed in probability and statistics, notably in the optional stopping theorem.

 The Pie Rule
The usual implementation of the Pie Rule for pencil-and-paper games is that the first player colors in a region, and the second player has the option of stealing that move, and thus becoming the first player.
This is the rule we'll use for Hex and Y in tournaments.
The Pie Rule also evens out a game like Hex or Y, for which the first move can otherwise be a deciding advantage between evenly-matched players.

Pie rule - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The game of Orbit uses a "refined" pie rule, which technically has the "real" pie rule as a subset; like Hex being a subset of Y, however, the "refined" pie rule complicates matters considerably.
The pie rule, sometimes referred to as the swap rule, is a meta-rule commonly used in abstract strategy board games like Hex and Havannah.
Effectively, the second player becomes the first player, and it is as if that move was his, and the game is now proceeding.

This rule provides a way to make the game fairer without the use of komi.
Although rarely used in Go, the analogous rule (in a different, but equivalent, form) is normal practice for Hex, and the rule can also be used with many other board games.
The name refers to the idea of one person cutting a pie in half, and the other person choosing which half to have.

 Stata help for clstop
Cluster-analysis stopping rules are used to determine the number of clusters.
With rule(calinski) the matrix has two columns, the first giving the number of clusters, and the second giving the corresponding Calinski and Harabasz pseudo-F stopping-rule index.
A stopping-rule value (also called an index) is computed for each cluster solution (e.g., at each level of the hierarchy in a hierarchical cluster analysis).

So, the rule has to be made sufficiently specific so that none of these other cases satisfy the rule.
It cannot be assumed that the correct location for a new rule is as a refinement for one of the rules giving one of the wrong classifications.
A rule at some level can be hit by all the cases associated with its siblings at the same level and their children lower in the system.

As a result it is customary for equal players to use the pie rule, so called because it is derived from the puzzle of how two people can share a piece of pie fairly.
The pie rule eliminates the large advantage the first player has, and it makes the game more interesting (the player who decides whether to be the first or second player has a slight advantage).
The pie rule applied to Y says that one player decides what the first player's first move will be.

 Sensei's Library: Pie Rule/ Discussion
Maybe better than a plain pie rule would be to play zero to a few moves into the game, then auction off black.
To avoid this, one could introduce a modificated pie rule, saying: If the cut is conducted by both players, then colors have to be chosen by none of them, but random.
Personally, I have never thought that the pie rule produces particularly elegant positions, since it throws in intentionally nonoptimal play into what is supposed to be a mutual honest struggle between the two color.

The Stopping and Range in Compounds
In all cases a significant correction is required to go from the simple Bragg's rule of additivity to the corrected curves.
This rule is reasonably accurate, and the measured stopping of ions in compounds usually deviates less than 20% from that predicted by Bragg's rule.
Experimental studies of Bragg's rule started in the 1960s, and wide discrepancies were found from simple additivity of stopping powers.

Rule variations (poker) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A popular poker game in Spain is played with cards 8-A. It is played similar to hold'em, except that one card is dealt at a time and you must use both of your hole cards.
While poker was originally played with each player receiving five cards and only one betting round, it has expanded to include hundreds of variants.
Poker was first played with only 20 cards.

This is not quite the ``slice of pie'' proposal advanced by some service agents, since the Department would not necessarily be limited by rule to applying a PIE only to the type of activity or organizational element directly involved in the noncompliance.
The effect of this action is to make PIE proceedings available to the Department with respect to noncompliance with the existing Part 40 rule between the publication date of this revision and the August 1 effective date of the complete revised Part 40.

Thus, a first observation is that the upper bound for a stopping rule of order k cannot be stricter than the upper bound for a stopping rule of order k-1.
In other words, even if data are not consistent with the upper bound of the (k-1)th-terminating stopping rule, they may still be consistent with the kth-terminating rule.
While parallel models with a first-terminating or an exhaustive stopping rule are plausible mechanisms in many situations, note that these rules only constitute two extreme cases of a more general situation where overall reaction time is determined by k channels having finished ().

Insightful Data Mining & Statisical Analysis Software - Group Sequential Stopping Rules
It is easily shown, however, that a stopping rule based on one of those criteria induces a stopping rule on all other criteria.
Thus the basis used to initially define a stopping rule is relatively unimportant so long as the operating characteristics of the stopping rule are fully investigated.
Group sequential stopping rules are often used as guidelines in the monitoring of clinical trials in order to address the ethical and efficiency issues inherent in human testing of a new treatment or preventive agent for disease.

Talk:Rules of chess - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The practical application of the rule comes in games involving inexperienced players who have great difficulty concluding a game, and even then they have great difficulty in maintaining the score sheet which would prove that 50 moves have passed.
Therefore the rules were changed to give the stronger side a chance to convert those endgames by allowing one hundred moves in some situations.
At one time the 50 move rule was extended to 100 moves for certain endgames, but as more and more such endgames weere found, the rule (wisely) went back to 50 moves.

 Games of Soldiers - GONNECT
What happens is that Go and Gonnect both use a common set of rules, namely, those for capturing with no liberties, Ko,..., but each game uses them in a different role, Go for territory grabbing, and Gonnect for connection patterns.
What Go players are using when they play Gonnect is the knowledge they have in those common rules, but there are other parts in Gonnect that experience Gonnect players will get and play consistly better.
Notice that the "No pass" rule, together with the "No suicide" rule, implies that there is no safe uncapturable two hole structures, since sooner or later a player needs to fill them in order to keep moving.

To use the "pie rule" the second player can be allowed to place the first player's first endpoint.
This is not a pie rule in the classic sense because a player can not switch sides.
Partial control of the first move of the game by the second player does help reduce and advantage of going first.

180 degree rule - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The rule gets its name from the 180 degree arc that extends from a point on the other side of A from B, to a point on the other side of B from A, within which A and B will always have the same left/right orientation.
The 180 degree rule is also often called "The Line", or the "Line of Action".
The 180 degree rule is an essential element of a style of film editing called continuity editing.

Lowball (poker) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Some forms of poker, often called lowball, sometimes called "low poker," reward poor poker hands (in the traditional sense).
Some games are played high-low split, where the player with the best traditional poker hand (called the high hand) splits the pot with the best low hand.
There are three common variations on this idea, differing in whether aces are treated as high cards or low cards, and whether or not straights and flushes are used.

The Carroll Boards - Total Eclipse of the Heart Butte. Slaughter Rule 3 stars.
The title is a nice touch of poetry: the "slaughter rule" means that a football team must resign after having a ton of points scored against them.
The movie tells the tale of not letting life apply the slaughter rule, but fighting back even when the odds are overwhelming.
“Slaughter Rule” has more ambition than it can fulfill in 112 minutes, but it’s always more enjoyable to watch a flawed movie of substance, rather than a slick Hollywood movie that’s hollow at the core.
