 Shadowrun - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The game is skill-based rather than class-based, but archetypes are presented in the main book to give players and gamemasters an idea of what is possible with the system.
The third game was an interactive fiction adventure game developed by Japanese company Group SNE in 1996 for the Mega CD console, again titled Shadowrun.
They are generally faithful to the pen and paper game.

Earthdawn and Shadowrun are roleplaying games originally produced by FASA.
The Shadowrun behemoth, birdman, torpedo shark and wyvern corresponds to the Earthdawn behemoth, shriekerbat, selachi and wyvern, respectively, in appearence and ability, although there are some marked differences (possibly due to a difference in the mana level between the two settings).
The Shadowrun harpy should not be confused with the Earthdawn harpy, despite a noted similarity in pestilence between the two.

The game does have some minor omissions of the P&P RPG rules, but they are not major.
As can be expected from a good cyberpunk game, Shadowrun lets you hack in cyberspace to get various passwords, money and information in addition to the basic RPG elements of talking to NPCs, fighting the undesirables, and improving your stats.
Because it follows the original Shadowrun RPG rules very closely, you might find combat in the game tedious if you prefer the simpler system that characterize a typical anime-style console RPG.

With Shadowrun, one assigns dice pools, rolls initiative to calculate the number and order of actions in a round, assigns dice pools to actions, rolls damage if an attack hits, rolls dice to avoid damage if one is hit, etc. Several different systems apply to different types of non-combat actions.
While the setting is a question of taste, the game mechanics are a wreck of cumbersome rules.
There are also much more simplified (and alternative) rules for playing shadowrun that can be found on the net.

 Shadowrun in Development for the Xbox 360 - Xbox
For those who don’t know about this franchise, Shadowrun is a fictional universe that was introduced as a pen-and-paper role playing game by FASA Corporation in 1989.
Last year, we discovered that Microsoft filed a trademark application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for the Shadowrun mark and FASA Studios’ Jon Kimmich, a former Microsoft Game Studios employee, was kind enough to explain to us who owns the Shadowrun property.
Theron Berson, an animator at FASA Studios, revealed that he’s working on Shadowrun and he also revealed a fascinating detail; the game will be a first-person shooter:

Overview: This was the advanced magic sourcebook for first-edition Shadowrun, and included rules for situations not covered by the main rulebook, as well as expanding the possibilities, scope, and options available to and through magic.
Its contents are not immediately useful to typical Shadowrun characters (mages, samurai, etc.), making it a bit of a specialized sourcebook; the first chapters give background material on music, trideo, sports, and simsense, as well as actual rules for their inclusion in the game.
Overview: This book formed the core of the Shadowrun game system until 1992, when the second edition was published.

 Earthdawn/Shadowrun Crossover Information
While I’m convinced that Earthdawn and Shadowrun share the same world, here’s some meandering guesses on what the events in Shadowrun have to do with the events in Earthdawn.
Legend points are easier to come by in Earthdawn, but I think it’s just fine to make Shadowrun players sweat for anything they want from Earthdawn.
Note that Earthdawn human pedestrians seem to have straight 5’s for stats where an ordinary Shadowrun human pedestrian has straight 3’s.

So again, if you're looking to play the gritty, rough world of shadowrun, by the actual FASA rules, and with a great sense of the game world, turn to the Sega version.
They've created a flexible game world with a viable and beliveble story-line, but the freedom to advance your character through other runs, explore different character types (Decker, Shaman, and Samurai), and spend more time having fun, than wondering why you can cast spells, cybered to the teeth, while firing an assualt cannon one handed.
However, as the game is based on a role playing game, much like Dungeons and Dragons, it has built a strong fan base over the years.

So when this title came out, it must have come as a huge shock to some people who had grown accustomed to the coddling afforded them in previous games.
When looking at the source material for Shadowrun, it's hard to imagine it being any other way besides dark and foreboding.

Origin: The term "Avatar" was first coined by the designers of the role-playing game Shadowrun, the online role-playing game Habitat and was popularised by Neal Stephenson in his cyberpunk novel Snow Crash, where it was used to describe the virtual simulation of the human form in the Metaverse, a virtual reality version of the internet.
Social status within the Metaverse was often based on the quality of a user's avatar, as a highly detailed avatar showed that the user was a skilled hacker and programmer.
Avatars have also become popular in Instant Messaging, and are sometimes referred to as Buddy Icons By Instant Messenger users.

Even though they were originally designed for Seattle, they’ll almost certainly be easily trasported into whatever city you run your Shadowrun campaign in, and generally easily used no matter what decade the game is in.
