SNK Playmore - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
SNK licensed the game to Centuri for distribution in North America, who ultimately started manufacturing and distributing the game themselves when profits exceeded expectations.
But SNK also wanted to take advantage of people's desire to play arcade games at home, but without making the same compromises on CPU and memory performance that typical home consoles were forced to make.
When an arcade operator wanted to switch or replace that game, they would have to completely remove the internals of the existing cabinet or exchange the entire setup for another game.

King of Fighters - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
One of SNK's first console-only games since the NES, and their first attempt at a 3D fighter since the Hyper NeoGeo 64.
A puzzling detail about SNK's fighting games is that, while most of them overall take place in the same universe, often the details vary between series.
The details might be as slight as Ryo Sakazaki's birthdate in Buriki-One being off by a couple of years, or they might be as great as the entirety of the Art of Fighting cast being transplanted fourteen years into the future, so as to fight alongside the Fatal Fury characters in the modern KOF tournament.

 Snk Vs Capcom Chaos Review
SNK vs. Capcom Chaos like most fighting games is primarily designed with a second player in mind.
On the other hand it is nice to have all the characters available from the get go so you can jump right into playing with two players.
First of all this is a pretty tough game to judge, since SNK vs. Capcom chaos had a tremendous amount of hype behind it.

KOF: Maximum Impact Sony Play Station 2 Video Game Review by AceGamez
Due to the other attempts at 3D that SNK has made in the past, expectations for this game were probably not high and for the most part these have proved to be correct.
Though it's probably SNK's best attempt at a 3D fighter and it can be considered just as good as the Street Fighter EX series, this is a very primitive game with the only next-generation thing about it being the graphics.
To make matters worse, this character that shows up after every fight to "introduce" you to the next opponent just dumbs the game down and almost insults the seriousness the series may have had.

King of Fighters: Maximum Impact: Playstation 2 (PS2) Reviews - The Armchair Empire
Even the game modes are far from impressive, as players are hit with the usual mix of a story mode, versus, challenge, and practice modes.
With this, players really get the impression that SNK set out to make this game as awe-inspiringly generic as they possibly could.
There is not one thing about the game modes that bring a sort of wow-factor to the table, instead filling the consummate modes found in most every fighting game, and never trying to go beyond that.

All characters have basic punch and kick attacks that are mapped out on the X, triangle, circle and square buttons.

 The History of SNK
These games and their sequels, along with the NeoGeo, have made SNK an innovator in the world of video games and have pushed those other companies--primarily Capcom and Nintendo--to improve and develop their products at a much faster pace and at a much higher level of quality than they would without SNK in the picture.
When you speak of companies such as Nintendo, Sega, Sony, Microsoft, SquareSoft, Capcom, and Konami, chances are good that the average game player can tell you what games the company makes and what that company's significant contributions are to the world of video games in general.
The average game player might recognize King of Fighters or Metal Slug or have a vague recollection of the big-budget NeoGeo console, but he or she probably doesn't associate them with SNK.
