Very few actual games were released for the SG 3000, but the SG 1000 had the power to run almost everything you built on your SG 3000.
Released at the same time as the SG 1000, the 3000 model was a PC from Sega.

The console had two game formats which were cartridges and a Sega "Game Card" format. The cards held only 256K of data (cartridges held over 4 times that amount), but the advantage to both Sega and the consumer was the fact that the cards were cheaper to manufacture and sold for less then the carts did.
Sega also introduced 3D glasses that could be used in some of their games.
To compete with the Nintendo Famicom in Japan, Sega released the successor to the Mark I/II and called it Sega Mark III in 1984.

Pitfall II is my favorite VCS game of all time, and with good reason.
Pitfall Harry hasn't changed a bit, and the gold bars and Raj Diamond look just like they did in the first game (the sprite for the Raj Diamond is the sprite that was used for the diamond rings in the first game), as do the scorpions.
Their magic is still potent." This alone makes Pitfall II quite a bit easier than the original, and the crosses themselves serve as "save points", to coin a phrase.

The Life and Times of the Sega Master System (Part II): Features - The Armchair Empire
The Mark III was also one of the first consoles to be designed with backward compatibility in mind, as the system could support not only the new games made to take advantage of its fancy, new hardware, but also games made for the SG-1000 I and II, as well as Sega’s Game Cards.
Like the SG-1000, the Mark II could also support a keyboard, printer, and so forth, but it also began to see new game controllers with the introduction of the SH-400 steering wheel.
For its North American release, the system was transformed into a console purely intended for gaming.

This meant that almost all of the Sega Mark III's optional accessories were jettisoned, with the end result being a stripped-down 8-bit console not all that much different from its 4-bit SG-1000 Mark I predecessor save in horsepower.
In redesigning the Sega Mark III, Sega stripped it of all functions and ports save those useful to a pure gaming system.
This marked the beginning of the second round in the console wars, one in which Japanese companies would supplant American ones in vying for dominance, and would last almost a full decade before the next major player would burst upon the scene.

What Mark is saying is why jump from one constraint to another temporary constraint; we should switch to media that has no boundaries and thus can achieve maximum qualtiy & user satisfaction.
Drop the HD price and make it less fragile (dropping one on the floor is no good at the moment), and ya, it's doable imho, if no other technology betters it in the mean time.
