Roguelike - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Roguelike games feature randomly generated dungeon levels, which give them more replay value than games in which the levels are the same every time, though many have static levels as well.
A roguelike is a superficially two-dimensional dungeon crawling computer game, usually with simple text or ASCII "graphics" and many with "tiles" which replace the rather limited character set with a wider array.
Most roguelikes are single-player games, due to the difficulty of extending a turn-based system to support multiple players.

 Introduction to Rogulike Games
A roguelike game is a computer role-playing game (CRPG) which is similar to Rogue (the first roguelike game).
They are real-time games (not turn-based like roguelike games) and as the name says, they are multiplayer games.
Multi-player Angband (MAngband) and Crossfire can be considered to be roguelike games even though they are multi-player games, because they have many similar features with single-player roguelike games.

Roguelikes allow the player an indefinite amount of time in which to make a move, making gameplay comparable more to chess than to reflex-based games like first-person shooters.
A Roguelike is usually described as a free turn-based computer game with a strong focus on intricate gameplay and replayability, and abstract world representation using ASCII-based display, as opposed to 3D graphics.
Since the control systems of these Roguelikes are geared towards "expert" players, the novice player may be interested in trying a 'lighter' game like DoomRL [7] (http://chaos.magma-net.pl/doom/).

ADOM can be played as a generic "kill it if it moves" game with the right character, but is very playable for those desiring a more cunning approach.
