 QuakeWorld - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
QuakeWorld is considered even today by many die-hard players to be the best multiplayer game, to such an extent that a slew of games featuring QuakeWorld-like gameplay elements have been developed, including the Quake III mod (Challenge ProMode Arena), the stand-alone game (Painkiller), and a mod for Quake 4 called Quake4World.

Since QuakeWorld is in the end just another.exe for Quake our explanations will start with that, the game that started online gaming (together with Ultima Online) as we know it today.
The first one to get accepted was More QuakeWorld (a k a MQWCL) which is now a dead project, but still many top players prefer this client over anything else.
Since there is no cheating prevention code in the regular QW client, you have to use FuhQuake or More QuakeWorld (although MQW is getting slowly unaccepted) when you play in official tournaments.

Threewave has been updated with the news that there is a QuakeWorld CTF server on Planet Quake, tied into One Thumb's master server (read the note on Threewave to ensure you don't end up downloading all the custom models, etc. when you connect).
Zoid is also the one who did all the 1.01 to 1.06 bug fixes in the Quake C for QuakeWorld.
Jord has put together a page called Quakeworld Setup, a mini-how to, and Peerless[Entropy] has put together a Quick and Dirty Guide to QW Server Commands, that includes stuff you can't find in the docs.

Even Quakeworld demos here on chtv seem to be coming slowly, if its not a smackdown game then there just arent any TDM demos, duel demos dont seem to be pouring in either.
I can still remember playing NetQuake and getting Quakeworld demos from Methos Quake they were quite large for my 33.6 modem but I downloaded them all eventually.
The one where we argued about who was the best Quakeworld player, ofcourse I always argued that it was Lakerman.

I figure that the size of the group of QuakeWorld players, back when the game was most popular, is only about 1-2% of the size of the group of all of the online FPS players today!
This group is by far the largest group of online FPS players; the 65,000+ players (and that figure is probably low) that are fairly new to gaming.
Well, I wanted to make a plea to all these tens of thousands of players today; give QuakeWorld a try.

Get the latest version from our Quake Downloads page, install it, then make sure your QuakeWorld Command Line in GameSpyGames and filters is set to either qwcl.exe or glqwcl.exe (for users with 3Dfx cards).
You can't try out QuakeWorld until you have purchased the Quake CD.

 Accelerate Your Mac! - QuakeWorld Fix for iMac Voodoo2 owners
I was able to enable 3Dfx support for QuakeWorld by first running the QuakeWorld RAVE app, going to the options menu, selection video size of 800x600 under the video tab, and then quitting the application.
I then ran the QuakeWorld 3Dfx app to verify that 800x600 worked....it ran just fine.
I then opened up the config.cfg file in the qw folder (this is in the same folder as the QuakeWorld application), and then looked for the following lines:
