Topic: Phantasy Star IV

Phantasy Star - definition of Phantasy Star in Encyclopedia
In computer games, Phantasy Star (Japanese: ファンタシースター) is the most famous role-playing game series for Sega consoles, and has many incarnations including an online version.
In Phantasy Star II, the planet is green and water is abundant thanks to the Mother Brain and the Climatrol Center, but it returns to its former dessicated state in the fourth game.
Of the games, Phantasy Star III: Generations of Doom is seen to be the low point, with a rather boring play mechanic and little offered in the story other than its multi-generational nature to redeem it.

RPGFan Reviews - Phantasy Star IV
When a game gives you a headache from annoying sounds, as is the case with a few games I've played in the past, you know that isn't good; this is not the case with this game.
As I have played through many other RPGs now, and have heard various types of compositions, Phantasy Star IV's score is not the greatest, but it is certainly great.
In some respects, I have to agree, the game's story is weak compared to the other titles'.

 Phantasy Star Collection - GameCritics.com
The Phantasy Star games are classic RPGs (yes, even the third onewhich everyone seems to hate), and they deserved at least a little updating.
In this regard, Phantasy Star was relatively ahead of the curve for what was being done in these games.
Part of this is due to flaws in the game design (there's a certain element of cheapness in a lot of the bosses in these early RPGs—they're really overpowered) and the other part of it is that games have just gotten easier in the intervening years.

Two of the dungeon themes in the game were remixed from the original Phantasy Star, which is interesting and refreshing if you've played the first game.
When all's said and done, Phantasy Star: The End Of The Millennium is a somewhat easy game that relies more heavily on its characters and plot than the need to level constantly to move the story along.
After beating the game, a hidden sound test mode option can be opened by pressing the B button from the title screen, though the titles of the songs are barely translated from the original japanese and can be somewhat confusing.

 Phantasy Star IV - Review
Overall, Phantasy Star 4 is not a particularly challenging game, but since its other aspects are so strong, this oversight can be forgiven.
Most of the innovation in Phantasy Star 4 can be found in the game's battle system.
Sega must also be praised for giving Phantasy Star 4 one of the best, most witty Japanese-to-English localizations that has ever been produced and for providing each character with brilliant dialogue along with a distinct and interesting personality that matures over the course of the game.

Phantasy Star: The Fringes of Algo - Soundtest
In the past years, Japanese versions of the Phantasy Star games have gradually become easier to locate outside of Japan.
As most fans know, there were changes made to some of the games during translation that resulted in some odd or even frustrating differences between the English and Japanese games.
All parts of the soundtest, with the exception of the gray block, are identical in both versions.

 GameSpy: Phantasy Star Collection Review
Phantasy Star Collection on the GBA is a collection of three games -- two great and one good -- that isn't up to snuff for a GBA comp cart.
The games are almost entirely untouched from their respective U.S. releases from around the turn of the decade of the 80s into the 90s.
The games on the cart -- even the much-maligned and somewhat bizarre Phantasy Star III -- are still enjoyable in their classic state.

In fact, the game's first really major plot point (you'll know it when you see it) is straight out of Phantasy Star II - and in that particular game, it seemed not only far more original, but far more moving.
But let's face it - no one ever played Phantasy Star for the eye candy or the technical innovations (although it delivered plenty of both); this was always the series known for the landmark storylines.
From there, the plot expands rather nicely (and yes, you do get to travel the Algol solar system), often explaining things from the previous three games and tying their storylines together.
