Topic: Perpetual check

 Perpetual Calendars
Perpetual check can also occur in other chess-like games, although the rules relating to it may be different.
In the game of chess, perpetual check is a special case of draw by threefold repetition, in which one player forces the repetition by a series of checks.
Also, if a player intends to draw the game in such a manner, the players usually agree to a draw.

Chessville - Instruction - Endgames - Perpetual Check
Perpetual check has either of two possible aims, both resulting in a drawn game: three-time repetition of the position, or 50 consecutive moves without a pawn move or a capture.
Sometimes the player has a choice to avoid perpetual check, but only at the cost of losing the game.
Here's an example where one player was alert to the possibility and saved a lost game, while the second player was oblivious to the idea, and watched a hard-fought win turn abruptly into a draw.

Perpetual Check occurs when check can be given eternally on two or more squares, and the opponent can only parry or move out of one check to render him- self liable to another.
The King must then either be moved out of check, or a piece or Pawn must be interposed between the King and the attacking hostile piece; or lastly, the hostile piece Of Pawn giving check must be taken and removed from the board.
Double Check happens when the King is attacked by two pieces at the same time, viz., by the piece moved and another hostile piece discovered.
