Nintendo of America - definition of Nintendo of America in Encyclopedia
Nintendo Koppai was the name of a small Japanese business founded in 1889 by Fusajiro Yamauchi to produce and market the playing card game Hanafuda in Kyoto, Japan.
Nintendo also released the Game Boy Pocket in 1996, which was a smaller version of the original Game Boy.
For many years Nintendo of America also had strict censorship regulations on its games, and had a long list of objects, situations, and phrases that were not allowed to appear in licensed games on Nintendo systems.

Nintendo Entertainment System - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
For the rest of the decade, Nintendo was the undisputed master of the US and Japanese gaming markets, and its game titles were breaking sales records.
Nintendo has mimicked the look of the controller in several recent products, from promotional merchandise to a limited edition version of the Game Boy Advance SP handheld game console.
Nintendo's near monopoly on the home video game market left it with a degree of influence over the industry exceeding even that of Atari during its heyday in the early 1980s.

Nintendo, who at the time was better-known for their playing cards, wanted to get into the console race.
Most of the unlicensed games in the US used a dongle that would be connected to a legitimate game, in order to use the 10NES chip on it for authentication.
Nintendo, did not take to these developments kindly; no other video game company has been as tenacious in its dedication to trying to wipe out ROM trading as they have.

 Nintendo Censorship
Nintendo of America's policies of strict video game "censorship" have become one of the infamous tactics of this period.
Unlike PC games of the time, when enemies were killed in Nintendo games their corpses usually vanished quickly, and did not lie around on the floor forever.
The reason for this is because Nintendo of America still largely markets their titles towards a youth market, and in some cases in order to win an "E for everyone" rating from the ESRB the company must remove a few offensive articles from a Japanese edition before its US release.

The complaint charged Nintendo with infringing or inducing infringement of the ’958 patent by producing the gameKirby Tilt ‘n Tumble” for its hand-held Game Boy video game systems.
Nintendo moved for summary judgment of noninfringement, asserting that it was entitled to practice the ’958 patent by virtue of the settlement agreement between Jacobs and Analog, the supplier of the accelerometers for the Kirby game.
In that event, according to Jacobs, the Analog-Jacobs agreement would give Nintendo an implied license to use those accelerometers without liability under the ’958 patent, because otherwise the license to sell the accelerometers would be of no commercial benefit to Analog.
