Topic: Nintendo Seal of Quality

Nintendo Seal of Quality - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Nintendo Seal of Quality is a gold seal that Nintendo of America places on any game licensed for use on one of its video game consoles, denoting that the game has been properly licensed by Nintendo (and in theory, been checked for quality).
The Nintendo Seal of Quality is still used today, with all Game Boy Advance, Nintendo DS, and Nintendo GameCube games bearing it on their packaging.
One of the major reasons for the Video Game Crash of 1983 was customer dissatisfaction with a large portion of the introduced games.

Nintendo (Japanese: 任天堂, ニンテンドー Nintendō; NASDAQ: NTDOY, TYO: 7974) is an international company originally founded in Japan on November 6, 1889 by Fusajiro Yamauchi to produce handmade hanafuda cards, for use in a Japanese playing card game of the same name.
Nintendo released their Nintendo DS handheld game console first in the United States on November 21, 2004, then in Japan on December 2, 2004 and later on March 11, 2005 in Europe.

Jack's Video Game Museum - Nintendo
Nintendo's "Seal of Quality" wasn't a measure of how good the game was, the seal just meant that the company had paid a licensing fee and that the game didn't contain adult content.
There was also the Game Genie, which allowed players to use cheats on NES games.
Nintendo started out in 1889 as a playing card company and started getting into videogames in the early 80's, producing hits like Donkey Kong and Mario Brothers.

Methinks the time is ripe for another seal to lure novices into the gaming world.
When the Famicom first appeared in Japan, Nintendo was the only publisher that created games for the system.
By introducing the Seal of Quality, you re-oriented the market to the consumer -- the gamer -- and made possible all the new, amazing games that we're all drooling over.

Nintendo earns more money this year than they had ever done before: The Famicom sells very good in Japan and Nintendo's games for the system is very coveted by the customers.
Now Nintendo got another problem: They didn't have the time to develop and manufacture all the games that the players wanted.
Nintendo approached Atari, who by then had a BIG share of the American video&computer -game market.

From what i'm hearing, Nintendo might open the door to wanna-be game makers to have their games going through their service.
Nintendo saved it in the mid-eighties and helped people accept games, but in the mid-nineties Sony opened the doors to people who wouldn't otherwise bother.
Lately Nintendo has been saying that they don't really like the direction gaming has taken.

Neowin.net - Where unprofessional journalism looks better - Nintendo cracks down on piracy
Nintendo of America announced today that it has obtained a temporary restraining order that will prevent unscrupulous retailers from importing and selling counterfeit versions of Nintendo games and hardware.
I think Nintendo's biggest threat to piracy are those flash devices that plug into GBA systems so you can download roms and use your gameboy advanced to play illegally obtained games.
Of course, none of the other companies are using Nintendo games, only their own titles.

However, the Nintendo Seal of Quality held strong, as even with low game prices, Color Dreams games were of low quality and the reputation of the company became so bad that they had to spawn another name (Bunch Games) to have a chance of getting their products to retail.
Nintendo paints a very strong view of unlicensed games as bad or harmful to the system, saying they will void warranties and generally blow up your house.
Everywhere i look, printed in Nintendo Power, manuals, all have strong stances on copyright infringement, piracy, and unlicensed games.

As you may have guessed, despite the "Nintendo Seal of Quality", there are quite a few wretched games out there.
There are around 1000 Nintendo games, and I think it's unlikely that we'll ever rate all of them.
Also, some games were just too complex, so that we simply did not feel justified in giving the game a rating (in the case of Metal Gear, we kept getting killed right away, so we figured we must have been missing something, because to us it wasn't very good).

In fact, during the mid-80's the terms "video game" and "Nintendo" were practically synonymous with each other.
After the video game crash of '83, many retailers and electronic manufacturers left the home video game market for dead, but a Japanese company called Nintendo saw an opportunity and took advantage of it.
With a wide-open video game market and a runaway hit in Super Mario Bros, the NES took off and would dominate the home market throughout the 80's and well into the 90's.
