Neverwinter Nights - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Because Neverwinter Nights lacks a global chat function aside from the supported Gamespy, players typically join "pickup" games through the game's multiplayer interface, or schedule games in advance with friends.
Matchmaking sites, such as Neverwinter Connections, facilitate scheduling of games, and the experience is much like traditional Pen-and-Paper roleplaying games.
The game is based in part on traditions started in the original Neverwinter Nights online game, the first graphical Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game (MMORPG), which ran from 1991 to 1997 on AOL.

 AllRPG.com - Neverwinter Nights - Review
Neverwinter Nights is not just a game, just like you could never call a D&D session just a simple game.
Character development is another one of the game's high points, and in Neverwinter Nights it has a depth seldom experienced outside of D&D-based games.
This is the part of Neverwinter Nights that lets players truly experience the meaning of role-playing, by allowing them to join in a fantasy of their own making, in a world they personally know.

Neverwinter Nights for PC Review - PC Neverwinter Nights Review
Neverwinter Nights doesn't ship with a built-in multiplayer content, but the campaign can be played through by groups of players that can cooperate or try to foil one another along the way.
Neverwinter Nights is one of those exceedingly rare games that has a lot to offer virtually everyone, even if they aren't already into RPGs.
The game doesn't ship with a complete set of documentation for the toolset, but because of the community appeal of Neverwinter Nights, the answers to any questions you might have about it are just waiting to be read on the game's official message boards.

 Neverwinter Nights (pc: 2002): Reviews
Neverwinter nights is nothing, but a simple clickfest for kids that think they're playing roleplaying game.
Simply put, once you get into Neverwinter Nights, you'll likely have no need or desire to play another role-playing game for a long time--or any other game for that matter.
More than any other game, Neverwinter Nights truly gives players power.

Game Revolution PC Review Page - Game Revolution
Neverwinter Nights' multiplayer converts classic pen and paper, small group gaming into a PC game.
The game is essentially a vastly updated version of Bioware's award-winning Baldur's Gate games, featuring a similar game flow and single-player structure.
Single-player Neverwinter Nights can admittedly get a little monotonous, thanks in part to the town/dungeon/town nature of the game.

 Gamasutra - Features - "Postmortem: Bioware's Neverwinter Nights" [12.04.02]
Neverwinter Nights was also inspired by the early massively multiplayer games like Ultima Online.
BioWare's goal with the project was to try to capture the subtleties of a pen-and-paper role-playing session in a computer game, including a fully featured Dungeon Master with full control over the game world as it unfolds, and an extremely approachable toolset to allow nontechnical users to make basic content.
Our experience online was that we had the most fun when we were adventuring with a moderate-sized group of friends, with a Game Master creating an adventure for us in real time.

 CanadianGamer.ca - Neverwinter Nights Review
Neverwinter Nights (NWN) is the latest of these games, and looks to continue the success of its predecessors.
For DandD fans, the important thing to note here is that Neverwinter Nights is the first CRPG to do justice to the 3rd Edition rules - guaranteeing a different gameplay experience than previous DandD based games.
Also, be forewarned that NWN's developer, Bioware, have altered several of the pen-and-paper DandD rules to suit their game, so purists may be upset.

 Preview - Neverwinter Nights 2 // PC /// Eurogamer
Facial close-ups look good - and while only the single-player will enjoy the benefit of lip-synching, the whole game world will be able to stare at your socks if that's where you point the camera.
NWN2 is built on the DandD 3.5 rules, and players will be able to bring along up to three NPC companions, and switch to them to queue up actions - Baudoin tells me these are the basic changes to the dynamic.
But, sitting in a rather plain office at the back end of Atari's Lyon headquarters, watching Obsidian Entertainment's Ferret Baudoin go from playing a very pretty, fully 3d PC RPG, to an interface that allowed him to toss houses around, blend them together, insert demons and then spawn them 300-foot high, piqued my interest.

Neverwinter Nights will ship with both a single Player and a Multiplayer game, both with third-person perspective.
In addition to extensive player portrait options comporable to those found in Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights' players will be able to customize their characters with customs graphics that may be applied as Guild or Adventuring badges.
In other words, it will be possible, but, for security issues, it may not be as seamless as it is for the player.

Despite many of the game's changes, role-playing is still an obvious priority for Neverwinter Nights.
With full options on, the game can actually be quite breathtaking: torchlights flicker in the darkness, reflecting off your plate armor and casting shadows that dance about the wall.
While it is often used to terrific effect, the engine still has a long way to go before it can truly tackle epic storylines; one can only hope that Bioware sees it the same way.

 NEVERWINTER NIGHTS GOES GOLD
More than just a game, Neverwinter Nights breaks new ground as the first complete role-playing system for the computer platform, allowing its players to step into the shoes of the Dungeon Master to tell their own stories and create their own adventures in the spirit of the exciting pen and paper original.
Linux gamers will still need the Windows version of the game to register at the Neverwinter Nights community site (http://neverwinternights.com) and to import essential game resources into their Linux server and game.
Neverwinter Nights redefines the electronic role-playing game genre using the fully-3D BioWare Aurora Engine and the Third Edition of the Dungeons and Dragons (DandD) core rulebook, published by Wizards of the Coast, Inc. The game contains an amazing 60-100 hour single player campaign that is also playable in multiplayer mode.

The neat innovation (when compared to the original NWN game) is that players are granted full access to the henchmen's inventory, allowing for broadened combat tactics as well as better control of the NPCs.
