Topic: Military campaign

 Mortality.Net : A Dungeon Master's Resource for 1E, 2E, 3E, and d20 Dungeons & Dragons!
The main city I'm looking for (and from which the campaign will begin) needs to be a very lawful based place (though of course, plenty of room for evil and chaos to hide in the shadows), kind of a military stronghold around which a small city has grown.
I've already got a basic map of the area where the campaign will begin (should take us through 3-6 months of playing easily), but I'm looking for some published (or e-published, or just fan published) city settings to save me some design time.
I love the Atlas game material for D20 products I find it to be the most "plug and play" the mongoose stuff is great if your campaign world is very "fantastic" otherwise takes a lot of modification to make it work in most "standard" settings.

 Military Strategy and Tactics
Strategy, for example, literally means "the art of the general" (from the Greek strategos) and originally signified the purely military planning of a campaign.
Military strategy and tactics are essential to the conduct of warfare.
In the 19th and 20th centuries, however, with the rise of mass ideologies, vast conscript armies, global alliances, and rapid technological change, military strategy became difficult to distinguish from national policy or "grand strategy," that is, the proper planning and utilization of the entire resources of a society--military, technological, economic, and political.

 Decision To Invade North Africa
In fact the invasion of North Africa had been a main topic of discussion between President Roosevelt, Prime Minister Churchill, and their chief military advisers, known collectively as the Combined Chiefs of Staff (CCS), at the first of the Allied wartime conferences held in Washington (ARCADIA) during the week before Christmas 1941.
Even at this early stage they showed a preference for peripheral campaigns to be followed by a direct attack on the enemy only after he had been seriously weakened by attrition.
While the majority of American military leaders had their doubts about the value of a North African invasion and its chances of success, President Roosevelt was attracted to the idea largely because it afforded an early opportunity to carry the war to the Germans.

Addresses the major battles of the campaign both from the level of the high command and of the front line soldier.
He also addresses the merits of the campaign to liberate North Africa, which has often been considered a distraction from US focus on a quicker end to the war via northern Europe.
He underscores the political maneuvers that were as frustrating as well as essential as the military ones, as the Allied coalition seeks to work together in the midst of chauvinistic squabbles between the Brits, Americans and the French, as well as the ego-driven wrestlings between luminaries such as Patton and Montgomery.

CHAPTER X. - RUSSIAN CAMPAIGN, TO THE TREATY OF KALISCH.
York's force was the strongest military body upon the Russian frontier; united with Macdonald, it would have forced the Russian pursuit to stop at the Niemen; abandoning Napoleon, it brought his enemies on to the Vistula, and threatened incalculable danger by its example to all the rest of Germany.
A bloody struggle left the French in possession of the road: they continued their advance; but it was only to find that Kutusoff, with his full strength, had occupied a line of heights farther south, and barred the way to Kaluga.
In all, the Russians had only 220,000 men to oppose to more than double that number of the enemy.
