Mario Tennis (Mario Power Tennis) Review
Mario Tennis is also easy to get into and easy to learn, which makes it a great game for hardcore video game players and casual players alike.
Mario Tennis is a fun game to play, but it really is designed for multiplayer action.
Our favorite game though is one of the multiplayer games where you have to hit a huge chain chomp with tennis balls.

 GameSpy: Mario Power Tennis Review
Mario Tennis 64 is my favorite tennis game of all time.
Camelot serves up (snicker) a wonderful tennis game for the GCN that's complete with good single-player games, awesome multiplayer action, and future link capabilities.
The addition of power shots is one of two reasons the game feels very different from the original.

Mario Tennis: Power Tour (GBA) (Preview)
Mario Tennis: Power Tour, then, is a game that has a whole lot going for it.
Mario's power shot, for example, lets you return the ball to your opponent using a bazooka instead of a racquet.
One of the best ways to improve your game in Mario Tennis: Power Tour is through the power tour mode, in which you'll assume the role of a hopeful young tennis player in his or her first year at the Royal Tennis Academy.

Mario Power Tennis (cube: 2004): Reviews
Mario Power Tennis is a great game even for those that don't generally like tennis unless Anna Kournikova is playing.
As long as you are not in tournament mode, the game can be the most normal game of tennis you've ever played, or the most ridiculous one you've ever played.
MPT may not reinvent the game, but it definitely whacks it up enough to warrant a revisit.

Power Tennis' minigames are at least as entertaining as the regular tennis action, and we delved further into this mode, too.
Eager importers of Mario Power Tennis will be interested to know that most of the text is in Japanese, and while you can definitely play the game by intuiting your way through the menus, you might miss some of the more complicated options (such as setting up your control type properly).
When we last played Mario Power Tennis, we were equally impressed by its simple, easy-to-pick-up game mechanics and the wealth of crazy Mario-style courts, characters, and special moves on offer.

Review - Mario Power Tennis // Gamecube /// Eurogamer
Tennis games are fantabulous little things precisely because the people making them recognise the importance of holding on to that unrealistic, forgiving, overly fast-paced approach and introducing depth and realism on levels that don't mess with the fundamentals.
Tennis games needn't be so bothered about maturing in all the fundamental ways, and Mario Power Tennis plainly isn't.
Mario Power Tennis is the girl with the goofy glasses who was always intelligent to begin with and then gets made over and suddenly becomes a sex object.

Exhibition mode is great when players want to play a match or two of tennis, but don’t have the time or inclination to devote to playing in a tournament.
While Mario Power Tennis isn’t pushing the GameCube to its graphical limits, I really have to hand it to the designers; the game is full of Nintendo references, which manifest themselves graphically in the form of theme courts.

Mario Power Tennis GameCube Review @ Gaming Target
Mario takes out a giant hammer and smashes the ball toward his opponent, while Donkey Kong launches himself out of a barrel and hits the ball with incredible strength.
Power characters, such as Donkey Kong, usually hit harder serves and volleys, yet they also tend to be fairly slow.
Defensive characters are always nice to have in a doubles matches, as they are tall and have a large wingspan, thus allowing them to play upfront and reach many balls.

A lot of the game will be very familiar to people who have played many games from Nintendo over the years as not only do the characters feature from games such as Donkey Kong but so do environments.

Mario's done it all, and there's not much you can do to differentiate his platforming games [and if you do, it's blasted for being 'too different' or even 'not different enough'].
The courts are very much a part of the game and are variables that must be factored in when playing - for example, clay courts have a much harder smack on the tennis ball, and therefore it rebounds much faster.
Your tennis racket glows, you can press either X or Y to use an offensive or defensive power move to kick the ass of your opponent.

Thanks to the incredible appeal and fun factor of the game, Mario Power Tennis has proven to me that despite Nintendo’s declining popularity in the home console world, their games still prove to be some of the most enjoyable to pick up and play and immediately entertain one’s self with.
Mario unfortunately isn’t that fast at all and it clearly feels as if some of the shorter characters are disadvantaged when playing against the taller guys like Waluigi and Donkey Kong.
Mario Power Tennis is no exception to this situation and it is in fact the best Mario Sports spin-off seen this entire generation.

GameMethod.com: Mario Power Tennis (GC) Review
Each character has a raging chain-chomp which they must feed tennis balls by hitting them into their mouths; however, occasionally you will be fed a bomb rather than a tennis ball, and if you hit it into the chain-chomp’s mouth it will become enraged and start to attack.
Defensive power shots, on the other hand, allow your character to return a ball that is out of reach.
Like the Nintendo 64 original, Mario Power Tennis comes chock full of all sorts of wacky features intended to make the game more exciting; unfortunately, Camelot may have gone a little too far instilling zaniness in Mario Power Tennis, somewhat dampening the potential of the game.

We demonstrated Mario Power Tennis to a group of non-gamers who were very familiar with the original, and they all agreed that MPT looked ‘way too complicated’ and fired up the old N64 without even giving MPT a trial play.

Mario Power Tennis - gamecube Review - Game Revolution
Mario Power Tennis is a solid Gamecube game that manages to squeeze in just enough of that intangible Nintendo magic to keep things lively and interesting for gamers both young and old.
This last group is the hardest to play against as their shots tend to curve and spin a lot, so hitting them becomes something of a guessing game.
The odd courts and strange game types really give Mario Power Tennis its legs, so to speak, and toss a nice amount of arcade flair into what is otherwise a pretty simple game.

Camelot seems to have realized and in turn capitalized on the fact that many Nintendo fans are drawn to games like Mario Power Tennis because of the characters themselves.
The cut-scenes in the game are few and far between -- there's no story, after all, only a series of tennis matches -- but they're fun to watch while they last and will likely get players in the mood to compete.
The result is a fast moving, but nevertheless entirely tight, responsive game of tennis.

Each character has exclusive power moves—Diddy Kong going from paw (or is it a hand?) to tail happens to be my favorite—giving them a huge advantage at the net.
My main complaint is waiting for the animations of the power moves during a fast-paced game.
Key additions include new power shots for each character—one offensive, one defensive—that make cross-court saves a regular occurrence without sacrificing balance; clever gimmick courts fraught with hazards; and generally addictive minigames that offer a nice alternative to the standard exhibition and tournament singles or doubles play.

GameSpy: Mario Tennis Power Tour Review
It's true that Nintendo has done a wonderful job of dolling out Mario and friends into all sorts of genres that their platforming roots never could have predicted they'd be a part of, but it's inevitably hard to argue when Nintendo successfully pairs the characters with the right style of addictive gameplay.
If you've played a Mario Tennis game before, you know what to expect from the gameplay.
As you'd expect from the subtitle, the crux of Power Tour falls upon its single-player Power Tour mode that asks players to choose between a typical boy or girl, naming them and taking them up through the ranks.
