Topic: Hit point

Hit point - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hit points, also known as health points, damage points, life points and countless other synonyms, are points used to determine a characters health and show how much damage attacks deal in computer and video games, role-playing games (both table-top and computerized), and wargames.
In some games, hit points are determined by the type and strength of the attack, and when an attack succeeds hit points are deducted from the target's remaining supply.
In the Dungeons and Dragons fantasy role-playing game and DandD-derived games, player characters' hit points are determined by character level, and monsters' hit points are determined by a mechanism similar to character levels called "Hit Dice".

Hit point - definition of Hit point in Encyclopedia
In many wargames, role-playing games, and combat-oriented video games, hit points are an abstraction for the amount of damage an object or player in the game can take before becoming ineffective.
In most games using this system, losing hit points has little effect until a target reaches zero hit points, at which point it dies, becomes unconscious, or is destroyed.
In the Dungeons & Dragons fantasy role-playing game and DandD-derived games, player characters' hit points are determined by character level, and monsters' hit points are determined by a mechanism similar to character levels called Hit Dice.

 Injury and Death :: d20srd.org
Hit points mean two things in the game world: the ability to take physical punishment and keep going, and the ability to turn a serious blow into a less serious one.
When the temporary hit points go away the character’s hit points drop to his current hit point total.
On the next turn after a character is reduced to between -1 and -9 hit points and on all subsequent turns, roll d% to see whether the dying character becomes stable.

Magic point - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In computer role-playing games, the magic points gauge is usually depicted as being blue, in contrast with the red of the Hit points gauge.
The concept of magic points has been used in numerous (computer) role-playing games (e.g., dnd and other CRPGs on PLATO beginning in 1974, GURPS, Palladium, the Diablo series, and MMORPGs like EverQuest), MUDs, trading card games (Magic: The Gathering), and strategy games (Populous, StarCraft and Warcraft series).
A character in such games will usually have a number of magic points based on his or her level and character class, among other things.

Hit Points, Stun Points, and Death
Stun points are regained automatically as time passes, if the chatacter has one or more hit points (no stun points are regained naturally until the character has at least one hit point, but they can be gained magically).
Bloodaxe is a 5th level fighter with 40 hit points, 16 constitution, +1 to hit bonus from strength, +1 damage bonus from strength, using a long sword.
Similar to hit point concept of Death's Door, stun points have a Consious Point.

The Justification Of The Hit Point System
My point is simply that as a matter of game balance, the classes have been built in such a fashion that would seem to support their playability during the years of play testing.
Only when their hit points are reduced to the realm of their first hit dice will these wounds become greatly physical and therefore something more in the realm of our everyday experiences.
It is these hit points that are the only 'real hit points' the character has or ever will.

 FF: Hit Point Track
When a character takes damage, a number of checks are marked on the hit point track, starting from Terrible and moving up through the circled level on the hit point track of the character's damage capacity attribute.
Finally, when a character takes enough damage to place his hit point track at the same level as his damage capacity attribute, that character is at -2 to all actions.
When a character takes enough damage to place his hit point track at the level prior to his damage capacity attribute, the character is at -1 to all actions.

If applying the damage to hit points would do more damage to vitality (because it would deplete their hit points) it will be figured that way instead.
1- Hit point totals remain the same, and are figured the same.

For each complete week of bed rest, the character can add any Constitution hit point bonus he might have to the base of 21 points (3 points per day) he regained during the week.

Regular hit points are well and good, but some people just don't like the abstraction -- argue about it all you want, it's still a fact.
partly because it exploits a legal loophole in the d20 System Liscence (you're not allowed to redefine 'hit points,' and wounds/vitality is held by the Star Wars game and certain Polyhedron games already anyway).
