Hideo Kojima - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hideo Kojima (小島秀夫 Kojima Hideo, born August 24, 1963) is a Japanese video game designer at Konami.
In this game, the player also needs to use camouflage to evade enemies.
It was released in 1987 to critical success, although due to the MSX home computer's obscurity, the initial MSX version of the game was barely well-known in Japan and Europe.

alldeaf.com v4 - Q&A with Hideo Kojima, the creator of the MGS series
Kojima explained that man-made structures such as buildings are easy to render and hit-detect, but nature tends to have crests and gaps that make the game's calculations difficult, especially when the player, enemy, and other objects interact with them.
Kojima commented that this will make Metal Gear Solid 3 feel like a true espionage game, as players will have to fight and play hide and seek against the enemies who are tracking them.
Kojima said that Metal Gear Solid 3's gameplay system will be different from that of the previous games.

Kojima: Maybe perhaps it’s that the Japanese users don’t like the same kind of storytelling or the message that scolds the players in a way and maybe Japanese players don’t like that anymore.
Kojima: It’s a difficult question to answer, because multi-format is not what I like to do in terms of game development.
Kojima: In terms of popularity, it would be US, Europe, and then Japan.

Elevators are an important gameplay contraption in the Metal Gear series, Kojima states, but the idea to put an elevator into the games was inspired by an elevator scene in the movie Zombie.
Also, when lost in the jungle, players will probably want to use the right analogue stick to switch to the top-down view in order to find out where they should be heading.
I want to continue making things." Apparently, we will be able to see some of Kojima's determination as a middle-aged game creator in the old Snake that appears in Metal Gear Solid 4.

Kojima attempts to do all this and then some, and succeeds more often than he fails.
As a child growing up in Kobe, Japan, he played outdoor games like thief-and-detective (the Japanese equivalent of hide-and-seek) with his friends, flattening himself against walls and peeking around corners in much the same way as Solid Snake, the hero of MGS2, does today.
Making a game today requires many skills, and in a sense the 38-year-old Kojima has been preparing for MGS2 his entire life.

More importantly, the MSX's limited graphics capabilities inspired gameplay that encouraged the player to avoid visual contact with the enemy.
