 Encyclopedia: Super Famicom
Super Famicom (Japanese:スーパーファミコン) was a videogame console released by Nintendo in Japan.
Only 13 games were released (see List of Sufami Turbo games).
Emulation also enables the Japan-exclusive video games to be unofficially translated into English and other languages by means of ROM hacking using a hexadecimal editor.

Nintendo Entertainment System - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Famicom BASIC was a BASIC version for the Famicom.
With a completely redesigned case and a new name, the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) proved to be just as popular in America as the Famicom was in Japan, and played a major role in revitalizing interest in the video game industry following the video game crash of 1983.
In addition, the second controller featured an internal microphone for use with certain games.

The Famicom: 20 Years Later Feature for Domestic on GamePro.com
A Famicom, on the other hand, is a tool for entertainment; it's a system that we declare we're making games for and then we make them.
To celebrate the Famicom's anniversary, Nintendo advisor Hiroshi Imanishi (one of the designers of the NES' internal hardware) sat down with Japanese games mag Famitsu last week to discuss how the game system was born and what obstacles it faced in the then-struggling video game marketplace.

 Family Computer
There are several large game stores with at least a floor devoted to Famicom games, and a number of smaller stores with the proverbial "stack in the corner".
This means that you can't play FC games on a NES without an adapter, and vice versa.
The Famicom was, if you haven't figured out yet by perusing this page, the Japanese version of the NES, originally introduced in July of 1983.

 1UP: Hudson's Adventure Island (Famicom Mini 17)
Adventure Island is one of the simplest games in the Famicom's history -- you're a guy, you're on the left, and your goal is to go right for several hours.
This event was somewhat similar to the Nintendo World Championships held across America five years later -- Hudson would hold a nationwide tournament based around one of their new Famicom games, offering tips and previews of the rest of their lineup at each stop on the tour.
The host of this caravan was Toshiyuki Takahashi, a PR guy who happened to be very good at video games.

The Famicom mini version makes good use of the horizontal screen layout to display the players’ scores, hi score and board fruit information.
While not a hugely popular title here in the states (previously only available here in the states on volume 2 of the namco museum collection for the ps one), this game of cat and mouse is another one of those quirky games that is extremely easy to pick up and play straight away.
As one of the first games in the Famicom library to feature a built-in lithium battery to save the player’s progress, the Legend of Zelda brought an epic scaled action-adventure into the hands of millions.

Double Dragon Dojo - Return of Double Dragon Review
Technos should have delayed the game a bit and program a half decent epilogue for the game to go along the storyline given in the manual.
The characters may not be as big as the ones featured in games like Final Fight or Combatribes, but because of this, the stages are wider and the characters have several moves and frames of animations, which more than makes up for it.
Although it's not much, but at least it's something more than the brief move lists given in the Famicom manuals of Double Dragon I and II.

Curmudgeon Gamer - Review: Karateka (Famicom)
Regrettably, the Famicom version actually gives you less control over your fighter than the other versions of the game.
So the Famicom version of Karateka is basically an unmotivated beat-'em-up.
I'm always looking for the best version of a game, and I'd hoped that Karateka for the Famicom would live up to, and perhaps surpass, the level set by the Apple ][ and Commodore versions of the game.

 PlanetNES Famicom
The Famicom sold for the equivelant of roughly 100 American dollars making it the lowest priced gameing unit in Japan.
This, along with the fact that at the time there was virtually no competition in Japan, made the Faimcom into THE king of gaming.
In 1983 after much success as a game developer, Nintendo bravely relaesed the Japanese Family Computer or Famicom.

I honestly don't think I'll be playing it much, unless maybe I pick up an adapter to play NES games on the Famicom.
I've picked up a few Famicom games I've wanted that didn't really have any Japanese text, placed them inside the NES cases and had some of my more artistic friend design custom labels for them.
The idea at the time was that the disks could hold larger games (the ROM sizes at the time were incredibly small..

1UP: Wrecking Crew (Famicom Mini 14)
Wrecking Crew is an odd game, and it seems a bit out of place both in the Famicom Mini lineup and in Nintendo's original game library 15 years ago.
Before its debut, the Famicom's library was strictly divided into two types of games -- arcade ports (Donkey Kong, Mario Bros.) and intellectual games that children wouldn't want to be seen anywhere near with (Donkey Kong Jr.
It's the sort of game that chooses its fans, rather than the other way around, and as such you're advised to give it a shot before committing on a purchase.

 Famicom Music Vol. 2 : SoundtrackCentral.com
This was because disks were cheaper than the much much more costly cartridge format, and gamers in Japan had to pay lots of hard-earned money for even a bad game.
New Demon Island and Legend of the Murasame in particular, are games that I didn't even know existed (well, at least until I played SSB:M).
The most interesting aspect about this game is that it was released (transformed?) as Super Mario Bros. 2 in North America, yet the catchy music is still the same as it was in the game!

Anyway, the Famicom would go on to become the savior of "TV games" the world over and the source for some of the best button-crunching fun ever -- such as Super Mario Bros. 3 and Final Fantasy.
Seriously though, you're not going to get much use out of the hints offered by the various old men and women you stumble across during your quest, but it doesn't really matter all that much since you probably remember the important things.
It's also really annoying if you're playing the Famicom version and you can't read Japanese.

Set to resemble the one-player controller of the original Famicom (the Japanese version of the NES), this version of the Game Boy Micro feeds off the nostalgia frenzy that helped to make the original Super Mario Brothers one of last year's biggest games.

 Curmudgeon Gamer - Bubble Bobble 2 (NES/Famicom)
If, on the other hand, the issue is one of "this game is licensed to play only on a Famicom", then whether the emulator user owns a Famicom or not is moot, since one would presume that the emulator wouldn't count as an actual Famicom.
NesterDC, the NES emulator for the Dreamcast, plays at least some Famicom games.
As I've IM'd jvm already -- it would be interesting to see if emulating a system you don't own to play a licensed game (I suspect Nintendo licensed Famicon BB2 in some fashion like it did most of the games you find in the US) is legal.

Square Co., Ltd. had a branch at one point called 'Disk Original Group' for producing FDS games.
The RAM adapter contained 32 kilobytes of RAM for temporary program storage, 8 kilobytes of RAM for tile and sprite data storage, and a custom IC known as the 2C33.
These "Disk Cards", as Nintendo called them, were a slight modification of Mitsumi's "Quick Disk" format which was used in a handful of Japanese computers and MIDI keyboards - Mitsumi already had close relations with Nintendo as they manufactured the Famicom and NES consoles, and possibly other Nintendo hardware.

The first games released were Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr and Popeye but by the end of 1983 they had made enhanced versions of Donkey Kong Jr and Popeye that allowed 2 players, and they had released Baseball and Mario Bros as well as a Go game and an adult title.
In the late 1970s, Nintendo, then an experienced maker of electronic games, noticed the success of programmable video game consoles as well as the huge success of the ColecoVision in 1982 with one of their own games, Donkey Kong, being the pack-in with the console.
