FMV game - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
FMV games, also known as interactive movies, are a particular video game genre that was popular during the early nineties as CD-ROMs and Laserdiscs made their way into the living rooms, providing an alternative to the low-capacity cartridges of most consoles.
Due to the limits set by the format, most games' mechanics resemble those of modern music/dance games, where the player timely presses buttons according to a screen instruction.
These games rely on full motion video rather than sprites, vectors or 3D models to display action in the game.

They add depth and character to the games without making the player feel that the game play is a weak and underdeveloped version of the cinematics.
The cinematics in these games let players look at the world from other perspectives, offering images and information that these players can hold in their minds as they play the game.
Game players like to play, and choosing which sophomoric one liner to use on the scantily clad, direct-to-video harlot in front of you ain’t playing.

I enjoy seeing cut scenes in games, it gives them a nice touch, but when companies go and substitute the FMV for the game play that is where I draw the line.

FMV games, as a rule, are difficult to execute well.
At the same time, we also wanted the game to engage the typical adventure gamer, and thus we had to be mindful of the need to include other aspects of traditional adventure games (combat sequences, interesting puzzles, explorable environments, etc).
The interface for the game and the gameplay design were similarly refined over a long period, with much attention paid to finding the common ground between the seasoned gamer and the X-Phile.

Game Revolution Review Page - Game Revolution
The game's speed was exhilarating at times, and the sound spectacular for a Playstation game, or any game in general, and the FMV movie interludes are very realistic.
The cost of the added stress on the hardware in terms of memory (the game had to use two discs for only 16 levels) were more glitches, occasional choppiness (which made the game easier because it actually slows down the pace at times), and more screen freezing than usual on a Playstation.
The actual game is very simple, and only 3 buttons and the D-pad are used.

 GK 3 Comments
But not until I've played Gabriel Knight 2, I then realized that a FMV game can have all the elements that are found in a real "Adventure" game.
The problem is that GK is not *just* a story, but a game, and particularly the brass at Sierra feel it had to be a game FIRST or the audience to which it appeals will be limited.
and King's Quest 7 that was a bad game to, i have almost all the sierra games, and have beaten almost all of them, and still am trying to beat Shivers, and Shivers2, and the ones in the past are CLASSICS and i still play King's quest games and Gabriel Knight.
