Eyes on Final Fantasy - The Largest Final Fantasy Resource Online
To keep the game true to its roots, Square Enix is bringing in some of the original creators of the title to help supervise the project.
This is interesting to note because it's one of the few releases of a Japanese game to come later in Japan than in the United States.
Also, those who've recently purchased the tiny new Game Boy Micro are in for a treat: Square Enix will be releasing a FFIV faceplate with original Amano Artwork, which can be seen here.

 IGN: Square and Enix Merge
The Enix connection brings in ties with well known Japanese RPG development houses such as tri-Ace and Chun Soft, with the Square connection bringing with it the foreign presence Enix has always lacked.
The choice of names was an obvious one based on the brand strength associated with the two companies, but the decision on keeping this name or changing it to another will be made in the future and will, according to Wada, be based in part on the opinions of game players.
We're certain that someone, somewhere in the Square development studios and the Enix accounting department has realized that such a game would set the island nation on fire.

Retired FFXI players that sign up on the game's official site during this period will be able to get their PlayOnline and FFXI registration codes reissued by Square Enix, meaning they can return to the game with their old characters intact instead of having to start again from scratch.

Retired FFXI players who still have active accounts at PlayOnline will have the chance to get their deleted characters resurrected when Square Enix begins another campaign in June.

 Square-Enix News
Trailers for the second game suggest a darker, more mature approach which may be closer to Square Enix' traditional strengths - but even with a successful first game (and well-received GBA follow-up) in the bag, working with Disney's characters is still an area mired with pitfalls.
Square Enix's first 3D action title for mobile platforms is an original fast-paced adventure set in the world of the PlayStation®2 game, Musashi®: Samurai Legend(TM).
