Certainly unique, Donkey Konga is the only game in recent memory that grants the player full control through the playing of a drum.
Somewhat similar to Dance Dance Revolution, Donkey Konga’s gameplay tests players’ reflexes (as well as their sense of rhythm) by tossing commands at them (left bongo, right bongo, both bongos, or clap) rapid-fire overtop the beat of a song they select.

Pro-G - Prodigious Gaming: Donkey Konga Review
Donkey Konga is a typically Nintendo piece of pointless but interesting innovation; it isn't going anywhere, but it's nonetheless brilliant fun.
Unless, of course, you have a cheating gimp present who takes advantage of the game's tragic inability to distinguish whether both left and right bongos are continually being pressed all the time in order to cover all eventualities.
Screw looking cool, these games are all about having fun again, even if it does mean flapping around like an idiot in front of a wee camera or, in this case, flailing about hitting a pair of plastic drums and clapping your hands, like a great big monkey, in time to music.

Review - Donkey Konga // Gamecube /// Eurogamer
Donkey Konga may be tossed into the same hat as games like Samba de Amigo and SingStar - particularly by the Cube-only specialist press as they search for a comparable party game - but those games are arguably at their best when someone's making a total idiot out of him or her self.
In the end, Donkey Konga is just too short-lived, even in multiplayer, to be worth the sort of outlay it represents.
That it doesn't go the distance is, in our view, also down to a couple of other things - the fact that the game's 30-odd songs aren't full length, and thus disappear into the "heard this five times already" pile within a matter of hours; and a lack of ritual humiliation.

Finally, there are some multiplayer modes included in Donkey Konga, like Battle, which has multiple players competing to see who can get the best score on a particular song, or Concert, a co-op mode where each player is responsible for a particular instrument.
Well, maybe innovation isn’t the right word to describe Donkey Konga 2, given that it’s more or less the same game as its predecessor.
Honestly, I was prepared for Donkey Konga 2 to be underwhelming, and even if it was just an expensive song pack, I probably would have been satisfied, given that I enjoyed the original.
