While the system was quite popular, Coleco hedged their bet on videogames by introducing a line of game cartridges for the Atari 2600 and Mattel Intellivision.
When the video game business began to implode in 1983, it seemed clear that video games were being replaced by home computers.
While the dedicated game console market was short lived, Coleco continued to do well in electronics.

The only differences between the Coleco "pong" systems were the number of games, the way the difficulty levels were used, and the type of pictured (color or black and white).
"Telstar", Coleco's first video game system, was released in 1976 and played only three games with three difficulty levels.
The AY-3-8500 chip played six games with more difficulty levels, and the games could also be played in color.

The interface in particular is highly reminescent of those primitive text-based games, with a view screen in the top right corner and the Enterprise's current condition on the left, but thankfully, the tedious task of entering paremeters has been replaced with real-time battles which require quick thinking and reflexes.

I'm under the impression that the Zaxxon game is the hardest to find (fortunately for me, it's one of the few I own!).
It's downfall, like Mattel's Intellivision and Atari's 2600, was sealed in the video game crash of 1984 because of its mismanagement.
Probably the only better arcade style NFL game out is Blitz.

It appears to be a later release when Coleco was trying to really grab some of Atari's market share as it included not one, but two pack-ins (Donkey Kong and Mouse Trap).
On the back of the box, it shows what seems to be Coleco's version of the KidVid "controller" ("Coming Soon") -- basically it's a tape deck that plugs into the VCS (or Gemini of course) and plays KidVid games (and apparently was to be bundled with Bearnstien Bears).

Soon after it's release, the crash of '83 occured, and the bottom fell out of the video games market, leaving Coleco, Mattel and even the mighty Atari running for cover.
