Chess problem - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Shortest proof games - the solver must construct a game, starting from the normal initial position in chess, which ends with the position in a given diagram.
That is to say, the diagram must be reachable via a legal chess game which begins from the standard opening position.
In addition, there is the study, in which the stipulation is that white to play must win or draw.

 No Problem Chess Services
A typical chess problem may show a position with a few pieces on a chessboard diagram and the instructions are to find the moves that will enable white (or black) to win in a specific number of moves (usually two or three).
Considering that there can be that much of a challenge in a problem where there are only a few pieces on the board, the solver knows who will win and how many moves it will take, think of the real challenge of the game of chess.
Each player is confronted with a chess problem after every move.

Math Forum - Ask Dr. Math
Math, we are investigating the number of squares on a chess board "controlled" by the Queen at any one position, i.e., where she could move (anywhere in a straight line).
On a standard chess board we found a pattern using "concentric squares" or "rings" ----------------------------------------
Indeed, the number of squares the queen controls does form a pattern of "concentric squares." I'm not quite sure what you are asking us for--did you want a formula in which you could plug in the coordinates of the queen to get the number of squares she controls?

Problem C: Toroidal Chess Queens' Problem
The toroidal M×N chess board is obtained from the usual M×N one in the same way as one obtains a torus from rectangle: by gluing together the upper side with the lower one and the left side with the right one.
In particular, the queen attacks any figure which is situated in the same row, column or diagonal.
So, shifting to the left from the very left column you get to the very right one.
