Topic: Battlezone

Battlezone - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Battlezone, a 3D remake from 1998 which changed the game from an arcade game to a more complicated tank piloting strategy game.
Battlezone is an arcade game from Atari released in 1980.
Throughout the 1980s, Battlezone was ported to several home computer systems, including DOS, the Apple II, Atari 2600, Atari ST, the Commodore 64, the Sinclair ZX Spectrum, the Atari XEGS and Atari Lynx (within that version is a hidden game with filled polygons).

 1UP: The Essential 50 Part 5 -- Battlezone
Battlezone was a case of the right game at the right time: an innovative step forward in game design offered to a public hungry for something new and sophisticated.
Ultimately, Battlezone made it into arcades first, and with it was born the first-person shooter genre -- a format which has dominated PC gaming for the past decade.
And so for ten years, Battlezone stood largely uncontested as the prime example of the potential of first-person 3D gaming, and even today is widely recognized for its groundbreaking contributions to the medium.

Gaming Age PC Review -- Battlezone
Battlezone is also the first in a promising new genre of games dubbed "action/strategy".
This means that Battlezone blends elements of action games, via a first person perspective/shooting (Quake style) view while also building a base and commanding units a la strategy games such as Dark Reign and Red Alert.
The only problems I've heard of with Battlezone are the default joystick mapping that the game comes programmed with and 3D card issues.

AGH Lynx Review -- Battlezone 2000
By far the coolest element of Battlezone 2000 lies in its ability to be linked-up by up to four players total.
The mission-based scenario of each level does provide a new strategy element to the game, but with the repetitive gameplay and lack of variety in the enemies (and their AI), each stage feels the same after a few plays.
You can either play as one force, or everyone can choose to go his or her own way and duke it out amongst each other.

Battlezone for PC Review - PC Battlezone Review
Battlezone: Rise of the Black Dogs is a fun game with good looks that fails to deliver in terms of multiplayer support and audio quality.
Simply put, Battlezone is one of the best strategy games I've wrapped my brain (and trigger finger) around in a long, long time.
What really makes Battlezone so special is the way it blends the adrenaline rush of first-person action games with the strategy and resource management of Red Alert.

Battlezone II: Combat Commander for PC video game review and cheats
Battlezone II is a good game, but only for the same reasons that Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun and Freespace 2 were good.
The Battlezone II documentation refreshes the original events portrayed in the first game as well as explaining what was true in the original and what was cover-up.
Since Battlezone itself was an amazing game for its time, I cannot fault Pandemic Studios (much) for going with a tried and tested favorite, rather than innovating the genre.

Battlezone II First Look Review Terry McKelvey - TheGamersPress
Like Battlezone I, Battlezone II is a first-person viewpoint action/rts strategy game where you play the game through a first-person (actually, more frequently, first vehicle) point of view.
So, here are my impressions of the game so far, from completing about one half of the campaign game and playing multiple different instant action games (the two different single-player game modes).
Overall, the basic changes that were made could appear to some to be a slight "dumbing-down" from Battlezone I. But, to me, they more seem like refinements which improve gameplay and strategic possibilities, instead of overly-simplifying the game to a point where game strategies are lost.

Home of the Underdogs - Entry: Battlezone
One of the earliest pioneers in computer gaming history, Battlezone is a solid PC port of one of the most celebrated games of all time.
Battlezone is arguably the very first FPS (first-person shooter) game ever made, with revolutionary vector graphics that remains highly playable over a decade later.
Battlezone is one of those rare gems that don't get old no matter how many years have passed.

 Battlezone 2
Battlezone II is one of those games that somehow manages to be much less than the sum of its parts.
Battlezone II: Combat Commander is Activision& attempt to update the original, and while it’s a much prettier and more streamlined game, it also has some serious problems, and quite frankly is not nearly as good as Battlezone.
Activision& Battlezone was a great game; it came out of nowhere as one of the first strategy/action hybrid games, had a catchy Cold War conspiracy plot, sported graphics that looked awesome on first generation 3D cards, and offered excellent single-player and online gameplay.

Battlezone was way ahead of it's time, take a look at most modern day computer games and you can see that the game play is pretty much the same as Battlezone's.

Most top sellers are 3D shoot em ups, they may be faster and flashier, but Battlezone was the first, no Battlezone, no Doom, no Doom, no Quake and so on, just remember your life just wouldn't be the same if it wasn't for Battlezone.

NWGN - Battlezone 2 Review (PC)
Battlezone 2 is a fun game that will keep you occupied, but is plagued with some fatal flaws in the AI as well as some simply boring missions.
Battlezone 2 has a good variety of ambient sounds, which are surprisingly well done and add to the feel of the game greatly.
But all that is just the single player campaign, Battlezone 2 also offers a quick play option and multiplayer.

Battlezone's appeal was lost on the general consumer, and today it is widely revered as one of those great games nobody played.
Because of this dumbing down of the gameplay, it is difficult for me to think of Battlezone II as a true sequel.
Furthermore, its complex and shifting storyline, coupled with an overly aggressive difficulty scale, limited its appeal to the dedicated player.

As much as I loved coin-op Battlezone, it's Robot Tank that outdoes Atari at its own game on the VCS.

Though the above description is exceedingly simple, Battlezone was another pillar of Atari's stable of outstanding vector graphics games (which also included Tempest and Asteroids).
