While Fox was on Sauria, Corneria was hit with a full-scale attack by the aparoids.
It is unclear whether the Star Wolf team made it out.

 Game Review: Star Fox Kansan.com
This game goes back to its original roots and most of the gameplay is in the cockpit of the Arwing.
However, now there are levels that require Fox to go on foot with his blaster in hand and blast the Aparoids like a lone soldier from Starship Troopers.
The game starts with Fox being called out to finish off the last of Andross’ army, now lead by Andrew Oinkinny, Andross’ nephew, and an old member of Star Wolf.

 Star Fox: Assault Review
The Aparoids are such a menacing threat to the universe that even the Star Wolf team joins you in your fight against them.
However, after a few levels, the game takes a dramatic turn and soon becomes about stopping an invading robot menace known as the Aparoids.
What ensues is an epic adventure filled with heroism, sacrifice, and a battle against an enemy much worse than the likes of Andross or any other enemy the Star Fox team has ever faced.

Gaming Vortex - Because We Couldn't Afford a Wormhole
But while SF: Assault is fun when it comes to blowing Aparoids out of the sky, the major annoyance in the game is controls.
As you progress through the game, there's some cheesy love interest moments between Fox and Krystal, which isn't needed and is too shallow to work well, and plot holes at the end of the game detract from an overall strong impact.
If you've played FPS games on any of the systems, you'll know that they all have dual-analog stick styled controls.

Machine gun: use this when you are facing infantry or weak aparoids, it will usually kill infantry quickly depending on how well you aim (note: this will not effect aparoids with shields or bosses).
Sensor Bomb: it is great for destroying hatchers (aparoid spawners) just set one next to the hatcher and then run like heck.
To unlock Peppy Hare (Team Star Fox Combat Advisor/Ex-Pilot), you must play 15 battles of multiplayer.

Arriving for the Nintendo GameCube from both Nintendo and Namco is Star Fox Assault, a game that brings the styles of its predecessors into one packaged deal.
In this new game, the Star Fox Team (Fox, Falco, Slippy and Krystal) comes across a new threat to the Lylat system known as the Aparoids.
The multiplayer mode allows up to four people to attack each other in any mode that is available.

Judging by the criticisms that are popping up around the Internet, many players look down on the assault missions and see them as an unwanted aspect of the game.
The Arwing-based missions are most likely what the majority of players are looking for in a Star Fox title, but those missions are only half of the game.
As the Aparoids invade the Lylat System the Star Fox team springs into action, determined to destroy the enemy menace.

Arwing Landing :: Star Fox Assault
The enemies you will be facing while on foot are called Aparoids, as you already know, and they have the ability to respawn thanks to numerous Aparoid Spawners, which will be a primary target for Fox on several missions.
The game's bosses are also almost entirely some forms of Aparoids to, as the creatures have a nagging habit of taking over every damn thing they come across.
Other missions, such as Sauria, will allow to choose any of the three forms of transportation, which makes it possible for each player to create their own custom experience during the game.

Starfox: Assault on GameCube at TotalVideoGames.com Review: StarFox: Assault
As well as the usual Arwing fighters that are the trademarks of the franchise, players have the ability (where possible) to jump into what is described as a “new and improved” Landmaster anti-aircraft tank, and also travel around the environments on foot in a Mercenaries/Battlefront style.
The story follows on from the previous two games in the series, namely Lylat Wars on the N64 (Starfox64 in the States, it gets confusing), and StarFox Adventures on the GameCube (thankfully the same name!!!) and is set twelve months after the events that took place on Dinosaur Planet.
The Story Mode, the single-player campaign of the game, opens in true StarFox style with a space battle above the Planet Fortuna as Oikonny, nephew to McCloud’s great adversary Andross, gathers together the last remaining fragments of his uncle’s forces in a naïve and fruitless attempt to start a rebellion.

Throughout the game, players assume the role of Fox McCloud in his battle against the Aparoids, creatures that are determined to assimilate all living creatures and technology in his solar system Lylat.
This aspect is what made “Assault” so much better than “Adventure.” But “Assault” did take one very important aspect from “Adventure.” The fact that players not only fight in Arwings or Landmasters, but also on foot.
In several levels players must abandon their vehicles in order to infiltrate Aparoid bases in order to destroy them.

Hardly any skill is actually involved in completing the game, and I clocked in at about three hours.
To break up the Arwing missions there are also Landmaster and foot missions where you must fight the Aparoids on ground or within buildings.
I personally enjoyed the Landmaster and foot missions because it gave the game a battlefield-like feel with dozens of enemies running about around you.

 Review For Star Fox: Assault
The game is not tough, you gotta collect these things called S-Flags as a bonus, collecting all 5 hidden flags on the 10 stages will net you a exclusive to be used in multiplayer.
I like flying around and shooting shit, like I did in Star Fox 64.
The game never has any slowdown, and the Arwing missions run at 60fps, very fast.

After swooping planetside in pursuit of the last of Andross' forces, Fox comes into contact with the first Aparoid and this is where the gameplay takes a turn for the worse.
The Aparoid threat, along with appearances from Star Fox's sworn enemy, Star Wolf team, creates a dynamic, engaging and compelling campaign.
In Star Fox: Assault, Fox and friends finally defeat Andross' remaining forces only to find a new enemy, the Aparoids, threatening Corneria, the team's homeworld, and the entire star system.

Star Fox: Assault for GameCube - Reader Reviews at GameSpot
SFA is often times a fun game to play.Way more fun if you have some friends to play with. There are oogles of differnt multi-maps to choose from creating hours of fun doesnt get to boring. The missions keep you in the action and are very fast paced.
Now lets talk about the graphics. In my opinion there very good.Lush looking designs and the fur animation on Fox and Peppy are very good the aparoids how ever dont look as textured and dont look to good so killing them makes the game all more fun.
A long time ago I played the N64 version Star Fox 64 and was amazed by the awesome play control, the great cast of characters, and the fun of the game. Then a few years later SF Adventures came out it's alright have not played the whole thing. And now The new adventure SF Assault came..

The game is comprised of 10 missions that require you to fight the Aparoids either in the air in your Arwing or on the ground in a Landmaster Tank or on foot.

Of course being the legends they are, the team can hardly refuse, so off they go to foil the Aparoid’s galactic siege.
That’s right, folks, we’re talking more guns than an NRA spokesman, and with hordes of mechanical enemies literally lining up to soak up your plasma, you might just need them.
Okay, so the game’s plot might be following a tried and tested formulae, but hey, the series has always been about the action — well, apart from Adventures, but I think I’ve slated that enough already.

This game balances all three modes of play and makes each challenging and exciting, from running around shooting everything in sight with your blaster, barreling down in the Land Master tank blowing up the Aparoids, to flying high in your Arwing.

As I mentioned before, the game is a mixed bag and that is in every sense of the term.
After a couple of levels we learn of the existence of the “Aparoids” the games true enemies and the plot advances pretty well taking Fox McCloud and his buddies into an all out war for survival.
There have been some changes since we last saw the Starfox team, Falco has rejoined the group, Peppy has left the cockpit for a desk job and Krystal the nice female Fox from SFA has joined the team full-time.

Slippy Toad in particular — who, by the way, is clearly a frog — exhibits the same non-threatening yet obnoxious androgyny he's had since the original game, even though he has an actual speaking voice now.

 StarFox Assault - GameCube Review
The game's radar system makes finding targets like aparoid spawners or enemy ships a bit tricky, and it can be exceedingly frustrating to try to find a target when it doesn't show up on your screen.
The default control scheme is actually probably the most intuitive of the three available, so you'll probably want to leave it as-is; by doing so, you'll find that moving Fox or the Landmaster tank is an easy and exciting experience.
It seems the aparoids have decided to pick up where Andross left off so many years ago, and have entrenched themselves throughout the Lylat system.
