The game can be made more difficult but the initial playing level is sufficient for beginners.
Other games on the cassette include a 3D version of Noughts and Crosses, two invader-type programs, a version of Conway's Game of Life and Snakebite, in which you have to avoid a poisonous reptile which wants to cut short your life.
It is incredible that anyone with a sense of what the market expects should produce another maze game in which you move round collecting treasure and gaining points.

 3D Monster Maze
Rendered using low-resolution character block "graphics", it has a remarkable place in the history of computer/video games, being the first 3D game for a home computer.
When the game ends, the player can either "appeal" or continue playing again in the last maze.
This is augmented by several tens of BASIC lines for less critical tasks, such as the initial greetings and the game legend animation.

An astounding furious two-player first-person 3D game with a simple premise: Get the ball and shoot it into your opponents goal.
The game itself was pretty simple, but if you beat the game you got to go to a room with a large amount of components to make your own Rube Goldberg-esque machines.
Quite simple, used to scare us to death and probably can be called "the grandfather of 3d games".

Also, for the first time on the PC, a player can become the Dungeon Master, as one would on a pen and paper game, and control NPCs and monsters during a multiplayer game over a LAN or the Internet.
Neverwinter Nights also marks a return to the Forgotten Realms setting, although this time the game will utilise the Omen graphics engine, which is also being used in another of Bioware's current projects - the incredible looking third person action game, MDK2.
It may have brought international recognition to the style of game, but the award for the first one must go to - pencils ready?

The game is actually very similar to the game which featured on BBC Television's "The Adventure Game" at some point (the one involving the DOGRAN, which you had to guide through a maze to get something and bring it back to you....), although I think that was running on a BEEB rather than a Speccy.
Although I've never played it, numerous people have commented upon this game's similarity to 3D Monster Maze on the ZX-81.

How about the star wars game that was basicly 3d back on the apple 2g.
You could look up and down, jump, you had diagonal walls, fog, some level of perspective correction, some 3D objects etc. The technology was so advanced for this time that the real, immersive 3D environment got countless players (me included!) completely hooked to the game.
Technically its not a shooter because you don't have a gun (you have to avoid the T Rex) but still the game mechanic is basically the same.

Common variations on the theme include squad-based games - where you command a group of soldiers, and role-playing games — which tend to have a much deeper plot and rely a lot less on running around and blowing stuff up.

 Remake Culture
Witness the nightmare of modern game development, where if a game is not true 3D, with truecolour, gouraud-shaded, dynamically-lit polygons, and coated in an inch thick layer of trademarks, copyrights and End-User Licence Agreements, it will not get written.
In the modern world, games are commissioned by the people who sell them, not by the people who write them.
Given this, it's not surprising that most remakes come from old Speccy users.
