Deathmatch - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The goal of a deathmatch game is to kill (or "frag") as many other players as possible in the time given (until the level is completed or a certain limit is reached).
The term "deathmatch" was originally coined by John Romero in 1993 during the development of Doom, and later gained mainstream popularity with the Quake series of games.
Friendly fire may or may not cause damage, depending on the game and the rules used — if it does, players that kill a teammate (called a team kill) usually decrease their own score and the team's score by one point; in certain games, they may also themselves be killed.

Deathmatch Classic - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The gameplay is similar to Quake deathmatch, with essentially the same weapons (except the one for mêlée combat, which is Half-Life's trademark crowbar instead of the original axe).
Deathmatch Classic or DMC is a multiplayer mod of the popular first-person shooter, Half-Life.
DMC also imitates Quake physics, which allows an advanced player to gain a lot of extra speed or jump very high by using a number of movement skills such as bunnyhopping and rocket jumping.

What is deathmatch? - A Word Definition From the Webopedia Computer Dictionary
The objective of a deathmatch is to frag as many players in the game as possible while keeping yourself from being fragged.
Multiplayer games may also contain a single player game of deathmatch where the gamer plays against intelligent bots in the game locally, rather than against other gamers over the Internet.
When the game ends either by gamers reaching the end of the level or a preset time or frag count limit, the gamer who accumulated the most frags in the DM game is the winner of the deathmatch.

 Doom2 Deathmatch History
The majority of the Doom2 deathmatch players (or at least, the majority of players in the North American scene) abandoned Doom2 within several months of Quake1's release, and others who at first were holdouts for Doom2 eventually moved to Quake due to the lack of local players that resulted from the earlier mass exodus.
CSdoom was the first implementation of a deathmatch doom port that combined all three characteristics of modern internet game hosting: a master server to coordinate and offer games to the client launchers, multiple dedicated game servers which host games for clients, and the ability for clients to join games that are already in progress.
Doom deathmatch scene is heavily impacted by mass exodus due to Quake1 release earlier in 1996.

GamingWorld X - MTV Celebrity Deathmatch Review
MTV’s Celebrity Deathmatch is one of those games.
The Deathmatch mode is exactly what is sounds like – a one on one fight between either you and the CPU or another human player.
And this leads to one major roadblock to the playability of this game: both Deathmatch and Episode mode are identical except for the ability to unlock the rest of the characters and fighting arenas in the latter.

 PlanetUnreal
In any DeathMatch game, those players who know the layout of the map, the locations of armor and health pick-ups and the areas where they can find the best weapons are almost always going to have a clear advantage over any player who doesn't.
The objective in DeathMatch is to kill as many opponents as possible whilst avoiding being killed yourself, or in some situations weighing up death against the number of frags which could be scored by executing a potentially fatal move.
It is for these reasons that most advanced DeathMatch player dedicate time to learning and memorizing map routes which allow them to quickly make their way around a level whilst picking up the best items along the way.

If you're a fan of the TV program, you may find Celebrity Deathmatch amusing for the 20 minutes it takes to see every single gag in the game once, and even that might be a bit of a stretch.
Celebrity Deathmatch, MTV's clay-animated comedy series, featuring random celebrities killing one another off in an exaggerated, gladiatorlike fashion, was a surprise hit back in 1998 when it debuted as a part of MTV's own Super Bowl halftime show.

The next time you play a Deathmatch game, take a moment to see what units are used, and what units are being used most effectively.
While the technical stuff in Deathmatch, such as producing units and managing resources plays a big role in Deathmatch, games can be decided by the psychological stuff.

 Blue's Deathmatch Strategy Guide
A non-berserk punch kill is the rarest accomplishment of the deathmatcher.
This happens when you lose frames in a deathmatch; every frame that you drop causes your opponent to skip across the screen, spoiling your aim, situational awareness, etc. Using an under-powered computer harms your framerate, and in a deathmatch a player will be at a disadvantage if his framerate is considerably slower than his opponent's.
Deathmatch levels tend to be smaller than single player levels, often with more liberal weapon distribution.

 Deathmatch Manager - Features
Underneath it all, Deathmatch Manager has a custom built DLL which implements customisations and features in the Quake2 game.
Included in Deathmatch Manager's modification is support for Viewable Weapons (VWep), which means you can always see what kind of firepower players (and bots) are packing.
Deathmatch Manager also extends the features in CTF to include fully customisable CTF skins, and a handy offhand grapple, which can be used even when holding a weapon.

 DailyGame Review: Nexagon Deathmatch [PC]
Since Nexagon Deathmatch is a real-time strategy game, there’s a lot to learn before jumping into the pits of battle.
The game manual that comes with Nexagon Deathmatch is not much help either, although it does illustrate the strengths and weaknesses of each unit type.
The game does give you the option to play your own MP3 files for a soundtrack, and I would highly recommend that you use this feature because it’s pretty much the only thing this game has going for it.

 IGN Boards - where's deathmatch?
A RE4 deathmatch with the current control scheme would feel way too restrictive, because all of the matches would be "stand and shoot" battles until one of you finally drops dead.
RE games should never, ever have deathmatchs because they just don't fit in with the context of the series.
I'll admit that jumping through a window to escape attack or kicking down a ladder while your friend is climbing it would be fun, but the control setup is just too limited for a great multiplayer experience.

But PC deathmatching is more of a sport than a game in many ways, and I suppose that's the difference.
A turn-based board game can only take the simulation of a deathmatch so far, but generally, we found the mechanics to be fair and plausible in our two games.
We had a laugh when we sucked too, but something about having cards in your hand and having to wait your turn makes you feel a little more ripped off when you lose at the last second.

The second map, Overwatch, is set mostly outdoors, centering around a crumbling building where you fight one of the Striders in the single-player game.
To be sure, hitting someone at close range with a dumpster or a file cabinet is probably an instant kill.
If someone flings a heavy item at you, you can block it with the gravity gun, or even catch it in flight and fling it back.
